A lot has changed in Keene since this list was originally published in March of 2008. Since then the activist population here has increased significantly and more activists are arriving each month while still others are planning their moves to Keene.
Keene is still the best destination for pro-liberty activists, now more than ever! From an activist perspective, it is challenging and full of exciting, ground floor opportunity. Whatever your brand of activism, whether political, disobedience/noncooperation, or media, you are welcome here. Here are some reasons why you should consider a move to Keene. Keene Liberty Activism
There is so much to do in Keene, and the self-starting activists that are attracted here are always coming up with new ideas! Here are some of the regularly scheduled activist opportunities happening in Keene as of this publication. Please see our Calendar to see what is happening!

Monthly FIJA Outreach – Keeniacs have been handing out jury nullification info every time jury selection is held, in front of Cheshire Superior Court since August of 2008!
Courtroom Activism – Have you ever not stood for a robed man? We do it all the time up here, among other things like refusing to stop recording in public places. Whenever an activist is forced into their so-called justice system, the activist can count on other activists to be there in support!
Courtroom Outreach – Activists are distributing info before arraignments to the victims of state aggression, suggesting refusing plea bargains in the hopes of crushing an already overburdened system.
Robin Hood’s Parking Meter Rescues – Activists walk around downtown Keene, spot cars at expired parking meters, and buy them some extra time, saving the cars’ owners from parking tickets! Activists leave envelopes on the windshields of the cars they save so drivers know who is responsible and giving the owners a chance to send in a contribution to the effort.
Calling WKBK’s “Talkback” – Activists tune into a local Saturday morning politico show, pick up their phones, and present the pro-liberty message to the hosts and listening audience. See the details in the Free Keene Forum.
Television Production – Free Minds TV is produced weekly in Keene at Cheshire TV by liberty activists.
High & Middle School Outreach – Activists visit Keene High School and Middle School with signage or sometimes fliers and cds and reach out to students with our pro-liberty message.
College Outreach – Activists visit the campus of Keene State College several times each year to distribute fliers and reach out to the students.
Keene Freedom Fest – Activists gather twice yearly in Railroad Square to reach out to the public, socialize, enjoy music, and spread the word of freedom!
4:20 and Nightcaps – In Sept. of 2009, 4:20s began to be held in Central Square and kept going strong for months, despite aggression by Keene Police in the beginning. 4:20s still happen pretty much daily with mostly locals attending. Here’s a great article about them from Cannabis Culture. Also, socializing and civil disobedience continues after dark in Keene. Central Square has been won by activists as a DMZ for personal freedom, so it seems smoking cannabis and even open container can happen anytime without police intervention. With that in mind, Adam and Pete from Liberty on Tour kicked off the now-well-attended “nightcaps” in Central Sq. Nightcaps tend to occur at 11pm and involve socializing and recreation. Open containers of alcohol are enjoyed and cannabis consumed as well. Good times!
Keene is the world destination for pro-liberty civil disobedience and noncooperation! We’ve had people arrested for all kinds of things here that of course do not involve a victim.
If you’re going to do disobedience, Keene is a great place to get arrested and jailed. The jail is run by a man who tries to bring as much humanity to an inhumane system as possible, Rick Van Wickler (he’s a Law Enforcement Against Prohibition speaker). It’s nice to have a jail that’s not run by a sadist. It’s still a jail, but there are many across America that are FAR worse than Cheshire County Jail. The jail is brand new, with construction finished in 2010.

Keene Social Activity and Community Involvement
Every week activists gather multiple times to forge friendships and help the community. Liberty minded people are often criticized for being cold-hearted because they don’t support government welfare, when of course it’s the coercion that a liberty-minded person is against. Activists involve themselves in local charity because they believe in helping others – on a consensual basis.

Social Sundays – Activists meet weekly on Sundays for “Social Sundays / Game Nite” and socialize, strategize, and brainstorm as well as play board and card games. This event draws dozens each week!
Free Keene Karaoke – Typically happening Saturday nights – activists gather to sing their favorite tunes and be merry.
Movie Night – Weekly gathering of activists for moving-watching on Tuesday nights in nearby Winchester.
Monadnock Families for Liberty has been formed to bring liberty-loving families together for social activities.
Social Events – Activists meet weekly on Sundays for “Social Sundays / Game Nite” and socialize, strategize, and brainstorm as well as play board and card games. This event draws dozens each week! Also happening on a weekly basis are Movie Night and Karaoke! See the calendar for details.
Community Kitchen Volunteering – Activists contribute time each week at the Keene Community Kitchen.
Quarterly Food & Book Drive – Four times per year, activists contribute food to the Keene Community Kitchen and books to the Cheshire county jail.
Project Graduation – Once per year liberty activists turnout to help with “Project Graduation”, an event for high school seniors to celebrate their escape from the government indoctrination camps with an overnight party held at the school.
Home of the historic 4:20 Cannabis Celebrations – Activists and regular Keeniacs gathered daily in Central Square in the heart of Downtown Keene to smoke out in daily 4:20 cannabis celebrations! The fun started publicly on 9/23/09 and has involved upwards of 100+ participants! Only a few arrests were made in the beginning days, and since then the police haven’t bothered anyone smoking in the park at any time of the day or night. It’s a major civil disobedience success story! There has been a lot of media coverage – here’s an awesome article by Cannabis Culture. Search the Free Keene blog for more. NOTICE – this event is no longer daily at any specific time and involves mostly regular Keeniacs, not liberty activists, so if you are visiting Keene, this is not the best place to meet the activist community! Keene: Liberty Media Capital of the World
No one has dared challenge this claim. Keene has more pro-liberty media for you to consume, distribute, and help create than anywhere else in the world. Here’s the current list:

Free Minds TV & Radio – Hosted by liberty-loving NH natives Toby and Nick, FMTV is widely distributed on cable access channels across New England and originates from Keene’s Cheshire TV. The nationally syndicated talk radio version of the show also originates from the Liberty Radio Network Studio in Keene.
Obscured Truth Network – OTN Productions’ Samiam has located his TV studio in Keene and distributes his pro-liberty news and documentary work on Youtube, FreeKeene.com, and on Cheshire TV.
Free Talk Live – Internationally syndicated, pro-liberty talk radio originating from the Liberty Radio Network Studio in Keene. Airs locally on 1290 WKBK and 1220 WZBK.
Liberty Radio Network – This 24/7 streaming audio collection of the best liberty oriented shows on the internet originates from Keene.
Anarchy in Your Head – Pro-liberty comic strip drawn in Keene, AiYH appears internationally via the internet and locally in the NH Free Press.

NH Free Press – Formerly the Keene Free Press, this pro-liberty newspaper published by Free Staters is widely available in Keene. The NH Free Press has now partnered with the Free Keene Press, and is now two newspapers in one!

Keene’s Challenges
Keene is a challenging opportunity. If you want easy street, you should look at some other areas of the state. On the other hand if you’re ready to accept what is and be the change you wish to see in the world, this is where you want to be. With that in mind, here are some of the challenges in Keene:

Courtroom Crackdown – The Keene District Court has banned cameras from the court lobby and has even arrested Ridley Report‘s Dave Ridley and OTN‘s Sam Dodson, over it. This situation continues to develop.
Close proximity to both Massachusetts and Vermont + college town = lots of socialists and statists.
Some of the highest property taxes in NH.
Existing state representatives have poor NHLA liberty ratings. Most are ranked as “Constitutional Threat”.
Zoning board stifling new and existing businesses.
Crackdown on property freedom in downtown “Historic District”.
More housing for incoming Keeniacs needed.

Keene’s Advantages and Opportunities
It’s not all doom and gloom – the future is bright here in Keene. Here are some already existing advantages as well as a few of the activist opportunities. Of course, you can always identify and create your own and activists looking for an opportunity will join you! Get in on the ground floor of the peaceful evolution in Keene!

Free Marketeers, Voluntaryists, and Agorists will find a number of like-minded individuals in Keene. The voluntaryist viewpoint is the core of the activist community in Keene. If you are looking for the largest community of principled activists, this may be it.
Keene cops not as nasty as bigger cities like Manchester. They are more tolerant of cameras, and typically easier-going than their their thin-blue-line brethren in other cities. Some, like Shane Maxfield are openly friendly to liberty ideas, while still doing wrong and enforcing bad laws. It’s not police utopia, but it could be a lot worse, like it is in Nashua.
Keene bureaucrats tend to not be as unfriendly as bureaucrats in other cities. The small size of Keene means they are less anonymous than bureaucrats in bigger cities, so they have to keep up their image.
Highest concentration of liberty-oriented media in the world – radio, television, internet, and newsprint. Nowhere else will the general population encounter the liberty message as often as they do in Keene. All this media serves as an activist attractor as well, meaning more activists will come to Keene over time, hopefully including you!
Establishment confused, angry, and unsure of what to do about liberty activism in Keene. Some seem to believe they can arrest their way out of it, but that just gets publicized and more activists move because of their aggression. It must be frustrating to be a bureaucrat or politician in Keene.
Establishment attempted to publish a hitpiece blog against Free Staters but only resulted in more positive publicity for us. They quietly took the blog off-line.
Our first candidate for city council in 2007 received thousands of dollars in free press coverage including two front page news articles and radio and tv interviews. That same candidate spent $70 and did very little campaigning, yet received over 22% of the vote. The 2009 election resulted in 24% voting for NH native and Free Keene blogger Nick Ryder. Keene does not have very many political activists, so it’s a wide open opportunity for the more politically inclined.
It’s easy to be a big fish in the small pond of Keene if you are interested in politics, as there are so few people out here. Keene has 1/4th the population as Manchester, so campaigning is easier and your public profile is larger. In some cases, candidates run unopposed for local election.
Operation Politically Homeless outreach shows that Keene residents are overwhelmingly either libertarian or liberal. Self-described liberals tend to be somewhat easier to convert to understanding liberty.
Liberty-friendly Housing – Available but always in high demand. Investors may want to consider purchasing a multi-family home, owner occupying, and creating options for incoming movers while collecting rent and living with all your bills paid!
Cheshire TV – This cable access channel is the only local TV source in Keene and is therefore highly watched in the community. You can create your own television show, or work on one of the existing liberty oriented shows.
WKBK 1290 – Popular news/talk station with no call screening. Great way to get your pro-liberty views out to a general audience.
WZBK 1220 – Another news/talker, this one “progressive” and simulcast from WKVT AM in Brattleboro. No call screener on their morning show.
WKNH 91.3 – College radio station with on-air opportunities. Start your own show!
The Keene Sentinel – daily paper with fair reporting, could use some letters to the editor.
Internships and jobs may be available at the above established old-media organizations.

Area Info / Demographics

Keene is the economic hub of southwestern NH.
There are plenty of jobs here as well as entrepreneurial opportunities.
Big enough to have the amenities and comforts of a city,
Small enough to be bikeable/walkable. Keene is the most walkable place in NH according to walkable.org.
Population as of 2007 is nearly 23,000 + an estimated 10,000 more who come in during the daytime from the Monadnock region, VT, and MA during the day to work and shop (no sales tax!)
Keene is young – the median age is 36.7
Keene is mostly female – 52.76%
Keene’s residents are mostly single.

Cost-of-living in Keene is lower than the national average.

Variety of Living Options – You can choose a more “urban” lifestyle in downtown Keene, opt for the suburbs, or go a little further and you have rural living!
Keene is conveniently located in a valley. Snowfall and wind are limited compared to surrounding areas.
As it is located in a valley in Southern NH, Keene is not as cold as the northern portions of the state.

Several Websites SEIZED By U.S. Authorities

Together with several other sites, popular sports streaming and peer-to-peer website Rojadirecta has had its domain seized by U.S.
authorities.
A large notice appeared on Rojadirecta.org's website informing users, "This domain name has been seized by ICE-Homeland Security Investigations, Special Agent in Charge, New York Office, in accordance with a seizure warrant obtained by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York [...]" (See screenshot below)

7 Reasons Food Shortages Will Become a Global Crisis

Food inflation is here and it's here to stay. We can see it getting worse every time we buy groceries. Basic food commodities like wheat, corn, soybeans, and rice have been skyrocketing since July, 2010 to record highs. These sustained price increases are only expected to continue as food production shortfalls really begin to take their toll this year and beyond.

This summer Russia banned exports of wheat to ensure their nation's supply, which sparked complaints of protectionism. The U.S. agriculture community is already talking about rationing corn over ethanol mandates versus supply concerns. We've seen nothing yet in terms of food protectionism.

Global food shortages have forced emergency meetings at the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization where they claim "urgent action" is needed. They point to extreme weather as the main contributing factor to the growing food shortages. However, commodity speculation has also been targeted as one of the culprits.

It seems that the crisis would also present the perfect opportunity and the justification for the large GMO food companies to force their products into skeptical markets like in Europe and Japan, as recently leaked cables suggest. One thing is for sure; food shortages will likely continue to get worse and eventually become a full-scale global food crisis.

Here are seven reasons why food shortages are here to stay on a worldwide scale:

1. Extreme Weather: Extreme weather has been a major problem for global food; from summer droughts and heat waves that devastated Russia’s wheat crop to the ongoing catastrophes from 'biblical flooding' in Australia and Pakistan. And it doesn’t end there. An extreme winter cold snap and snow has struck the whole of Europe and the United States. Staple crops are failing in all of these regions making an already fragile harvest in 2010 even more critical into 2011. Based on the recent past, extreme weather conditions are only likely to continue and perhaps worsen in the coming years.

2. Bee Colony Collapse: The Guardian reported this week on the USDA's study on bee colony decline in the United States: "The abundance of four common species of bumblebee in the US has dropped by 96% in just the past few decades." It is generally understood that bees pollinate around 90% of the world's commercial crops. Obviously, if these numbers are remotely close to accurate, then our natural food supply is in serious trouble. Luckily for us, the GMO giants have seeds that don't require open pollination to bear fruit.

3. Collapsing Dollar: Commodity speculation has resulted in massive food inflation that is already creating crisis levels in poor regions in the world. Food commodity prices have soared to record highs mainly because they trade in the ever-weakening dollar. Traders will point to the circumstances described in this article to justify their gambles, but also that food represents a tangible investment in an era of worthless paper. Because the debt problems in the United States are only getting worse, and nations such as China and Russia are dropping the dollar as their trade vehicle, the dollar will continue to weaken, further driving all commodity prices higher.

4. Regulatory Crackdown: Even before the FDA was given broad new powers to regulate food in the recent Food Safety Modernization Act, small farms were being raided and regulated out of business. Now, the new food bill essentially puts food safety under the direction of the Department of Homeland Security where the food cartel uses the government to further consolidate their control over the industry. Militant police action is taken against farmers suspected of falling short on quality regulations. It is the power to intimidate innocent small farmers out of the business.

5. Rising oil prices: In 2008, record oil prices that topped $147 per barrel drove food prices to new highs. Rice tripled in 6 months during the surge of oil prices, along with other food commodities. The price of oil affects food on multiple levels; from plowing fields, fertilizers and pesticides, to harvesting and hauling. Flash forward to 2011: many experts are predicting that oil may reach upwards of $150-$200 per barrel in the months ahead. As oil closed out 2010 at its 2-year highs of $95/bbl, it is likely on pace to continue climbing. Again, a weakening dollar will also play its part in driving oil prices, and consequently, food prices to crisis levels.

6. Increased Soil Pollution: Geo-engineering has been taking place on a grand scale in the United States for decades now. Previously known in conspiracy circles as 'chemtrailing,' the government has now admitted to these experiments claiming they are plan "B" to combat global warming. The patents involved in this spraying are heavy in aluminum. This mass aluminum contamination is killing plants and trees and making the soil sterile to most crops. In an astonishing coincidence, GMO companies have patented aluminum-resistant seeds to save the day.

7. GMO Giants: Because of growing awareness of the health affects of GM foods, several countries have rejected planting them. Therefore, they would seem to need a food crisis to be seen as the savior in countries currently opposed to their products. A leaked WikiLeaks cable confirms that this is indeed the strategy for GMO giants, where trade secretaries reportedly “noted that commodity price hikes might spur greater liberalization on biotech imports.” Since GMO giants already control much of the food supply, it seems they can also easily manipulate prices to achieve complete global control of food.

The equation is actually quite simple: food is a relatively inelastic commodity in terms of demand. In other words, people need to eat no matter how bad the economy gets. Thus, demand can be basically measured by the size of the population. Therefore, as demand remains steady while the 7 supply pressures outlined above continue to worsen, food prices will have only one place to go -- up, up, and up.

As international agencies scramble to find "solutions," their energy may be just as well spent on questioning if this famine scenario is being purposely manipulated for profits. Regardless, the average person would be very wise to stock up on food staples as an investment, and frankly to survive the worsening food crisis.

Doomsday Fear Mongers Get It Right Again

By now, you’ve likely come across the recent 60 Minutes segment titled State Budgets: Day of Reckoning. If you have yet to view it, you can do so below.

Millions of Americans who have been told that our economy is now in a period of recovery may be surprised to learn that most states are so broke that they are left with no other choice but to cut spending on literally everything. Governor Christie of New Jersey is, according to 60 Minutes, the canary in the mine:

We spent too much on everything. We spent money just crazily. The credit card’s maxed out. It’s over. It’s over.

For readers of this web site and other alternative news and contrarian outlets this report was to be expected. We’ve been reporting on, and our readers have been contributing their insights via comments for quite some time - at least a couple of years now - about the fundamental problems facing our country. For those who have questioned their own sanity, or have had their sanity questioned by friends and family when trying to spread the message of preparing for the Greatest Depression, Governor Christie just proved that you’ve been right all along:

Where am I getting the money? I don’t have it. I literally don’t have it.

It’s not like you can avoid it forever because it’s here now. We all know it’s here. And the Federal government doesn’t have the money to paper over it anymore either for the states. The day of reckoning has arrived. And it’s going to arrive everywhere.

Unlike the federal government, states don’t have the ability to issue debt and print as much money as is needed via the digital presses at the Federal Reserve. They are left with no choice but austerity measures via spending cuts. And, as Charlie McGrath pointed out recently, Austerity will hit America like an Eight Pound Sledgehammer.

Earlier this year, we discussed the Collapse of Dysfunctional States as Another Step To The Federal Bubble Detonation, and according to mainstream reports as of late, we’re well on our way to complete destruction of the way of life as we have come to know it in our spend and consume society.

If you thought the housing bubble was bad, consider what financial analyst Meredith Whitney has to say about state and local governments. Take note that it was Whitney who blew the doors open on the problems in housing and the excessive leverage in the banking system - which led to the collapse that has left us where we are today. And while investment houses and ratings agencies are still promoting municipal bonds as a great way to preserve wealth, you might want to sleep on Whitney’s latest comments before you go all in:

It has tenticles as wide as anything I’ve seen. I think next to housing this is the single most important issue in the United States and certainly the largest threat to the US economy.

When asked why no one is doing anything about it, Whitney provides an answer that is as true today as it was before the housing bubble pop:

Because they don’t pay attention until they have to.

It is only at the precipice of disaster that people, especially politicians and vested interests, are willing to change.

The worst thing about all of this, is that, as Meredith Whitney suggested, the states will likely find a solution to their problems. Our view is that this solution will come down to massive, unprecedented bailouts from the Federal government. Not billions - not trillions more will be printed.

We maintain our previous forecast, though we can’t put a specific timeline on it, that the collapse of state governments will eventually lead to the largest bubble detonation in history - financier George Soros refers to it as the Super Bubble and trend forecaster Gerald Celente calls it the Government Bubble:

How long will this be?

It’s hard to say, but in terms of the states, we’re likely looking at sooner rather than later. States are already broke, with California, Illinois and New Jersey already showing serious fiscal strain. In the near future we’ll begin seeing states requesting bailouts directly from the federal government. Eventually, we suspect that the majority of states will be standing in the welfare line looking for hand outs.

For now, the US dollar remains fairly strong given our economic problems. In fact, any time a financial emergency spreads across the globe, investors seem to be running to US bonds for safety, so there is still confidence in the US government’s ability to service our existing debt.

However, we believe that once the states begin to require federal involvement to pay government workers, emergency responders and pensioners, we will be much closer to a serious collapse of not only our economic system, but the monetary system as well. It’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world realizes that we’re completely broke and takes action accordingly.

The states blew a government spending bubble, and that bubble is about to pop. The federal debt bubble will not be far behind.

Naturally, there will be skeptics. In fact, most are skeptical of the possibility of a complete collapse of the US Dollar and our way of life, but it is in process as we speak.

Just like the states, the federal government will soon be on the precipice.

Meredith Whitney says that municipal bond defaults will start occurring in scores over the next 12 months. We’ll see what the federal government does, but our guess is more bailouts - hey it worked before!

But who will bail out the $150 Trillion (official figure) government debt bubble?

Many have speculated that the reference to the four popular herbs was due to their use in Medieval Europe to help cleanse the air and ward off the infamous black plague. Others have thought that the reference to the four herbs was because the combination may have been used as a love potion. Whatever the reason for their inclusion in the popular song, the many health benefits of parsley and sage are worth loving and singing praises about in their own rights.

PARSLEY

Parsley is an amazing medicinal herb with a world of health benefits. The root contains calcium, B-complex vitamins, and iron, which nourish the glands that help regulate the uptake of calcium. It is a source of magnesium, calcium, potassium, vitamin A, beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin K.

Terrorist may poison the food supply (but the food companies already have)

Always on the terror streak, the mainstream media is now warning Americans that terrorists may strike the food supply by dumping poison into restaurant salad bars and buffets, for example. CBS News broke the story, quoting anonymous "intelligence" sources who insist that terrorists might use ricin or cyanide to poison foods in salad bars.

I have news for CBS, the federal government, and the terrorists: If you really want to poison the U.S. food supply, just use aspartame. It causes neurological disorders and yet remains perfectly legal to dump into foods such as diet sodas and children's medicines. You don't even have to dump it into the food supply in secret, either: You can do it right out in full view of the public. Heck, you can even list this chemical right on the ingredients label!

Or get into the MSG business. MSG, which is often hidden on "natural" foods under an ingredient called yeast extract, is a potent neurotoxin that promotes obesity and even cancer, according to some experts. Feed people enough MSG and they'll probably die of cancer sooner or later, and that counts toward the goal of terrorism too, doesn't it?

If you really want to get nasty and up the body count, start a hot dog company and dump sodium nitrite into your processed meat like all the other hot dog companies do. Mainstay Emergency Food Ration Bar

Here are the Mainstay ration bars.

Between last night and today, ate one of the 3 block bars... 1200 calories... reminded me of a shortbread type cookie with a hint of lemon. Granted I'm not the most picky eater but I didnt think they were terrible. Couple of those in the Bug-out-bag and you've got human fuel for 2 days easy. One small downside is that unlike the Datrex bars, they are not individually wrapped however you can purchase them in different sizes so any amount not used could be minimized. Chances are good anyway that if you are breaking into an emergency ration bar that not finishing the whole package is the least of your worries. Size, weight make them more efficient IMO than MRE's.

Datrex Emergency food ration bar review

These are Datrex Food Rations. If your familiar with Pepperidge Farm Chessman cookies, they smell EXACTLY the same. As far as taste goes, they are very loosely compressed so they can fall apart easily and are not a sweet as chessman cookies. My Wife says they taste like Italian cookies (which I've never had so I'll have to trust her on that one).

Each mini-bar is 200 calories, The white blocks are 2400 calories (about $4.50) and the blue packages are 3600 calories $6.95.

They seem to promote thirst a little bit more than the Mainstay Bars and another difference is the package itself. The Datrex are split up into smaller, self contains 200 calorie bars where as once you open up the mainstay, its ALL open.

Im comfortable with having both Datrex and the Mainstays as part of either a vehicle kit or just to have handy. Review of the Mainstay bars will be up shortly.

Transferring Fuel

The final touches are being done on the (yet to be named) device for transferring unleaded fuel from one place to another. This can be used to either transfer fuel from a tank to a gas-can or to another tank. Based on rated specs (fuel filter not included) the Holley Red should transfer 97 GPH of fuel. I suspect this number will be much lower given the two filters in place. There are many pumps available for the transfer of Diesel however I've yet to find a production unit built for unleaded so I decided after someone recommended a regular fuel pump, to build my own.

**Note: Test has not been done to verify that the Holley fuel pump will run in this orientation but there should be enough room to move things around if its not optimal.

The components, mounted on a piece of 1/2 inch plywood and some pine...
starting from the "goesinta" side (left)... Visual fuel flow filter and mesh, into a priming bulb, Holley Red 97 gph hour fuel pump, fuel pressure gauge, fuel filter and water separator with visa-bowl drain, onto the "goesouta" Fuel pump powered by 12V maint free battery.

The yet to be installed 12V switch, mounting plate and of course the fuel lines for in/out.

This setup is not yet tested because of both the switch needing to be installed and the weather... Since I will be doing a live test with a few gallons of gas, I'd like to do this well away from the house when its NOT raining.

Rechargeable batteries

Last year we spent some time both investigating as well as experimenting with small scale solar panels as well as rechargeable batteries. Although I do not have any pictures currently the two panels shown here keep a rotation of 3 separate 12V 105 amp hour deep cycles (from TSC) topped off and ready for use. A small inverter with two 110V plugs gets attached to the deep cycle and is ready when we need it. In the last few years, with the advent of CFL Compact-Fluorescent-Lights, you can now maintain a very good backup lighting system without the need for oil, propane lanterns and its 100% renewable for longer term use. Running these lights is not quite as efficient as running 12V lighting however having an inverter that will power up your more common household items has its advantages as well. Each of these is listed as a 15 Watt panel and under ideal conditions should be able to put 1 AMP of power back into a battery for each panel for each hour in the sun. Another example would be for every hour of Sun these panels have, we get 2 hours of light from a 40W equivalent bulb... The 105 amp hour battery can be used for approximately 27 hours or 20% draw down for optimal lifespan. During bad weather, car battery chargers do the work of keeping the 12Volts topped off.

Here is a tiny charge controller that can accommodate up to seven 15W panels and attaches to your 12V deep cycle.

Another side project was to start maintaining a supply of rechargeable batteries for flashlights, radios and other small devices. In case you have been out of the rechargeable battery world for a while (I know I was) you may find it interesting that they only come in the AAA an AA sizes, shown here. In the event you want to use the battery in a device that takes C or even D sized cells, most of the kits come with the plastic blanks that are the same size as normal C or D cells which keep the AA in the center as shown in the bottom left. A plastic Ammo carrier for large rifle cartridges keeps them nice and organized. + up means the battery is full and - side up means that it needs to sit on a charge next time its convenient. These are readily available from Amazon and you can add a few at a time every once in a while... In theory they should be capable of recharge up to 1000 times. If you end up getting a couple kits you can recharge 8 or even 12 at a time.

Being a 100% renewable option was important here as well for any kind of long term need. Run time on these rechargeables has been about equal with any of the standard throw aways, so I'm very happy with their performance.

Hi All,

I ran across the site and decided to join after it was mentioned on another forum that I follow regularly. Sounded interesting and I was hoping to learn from others as well as share what knowledge that I have... A little about myself/family… My Wife and I have been on a path toward a more self sufficient lifestyle for almost three years now (to varying degrees) and that path has morphed and branched out in many different directions, especially in the last year or so, given the current conditions. I’ve always considered myself to be on the slightly more prepared side than most and you wouldn’t find me in lines at the grocery store for batteries or milk before a storm because well, I would tend to already have those things. My wife works very hard on several fronts including raising chickens and taking care of dogs. We decided three years ago to build an off-grid camp with limited assistance and none of your standard infrastructure or supplied services. This meant that we would try to build it from the ground up to have its own electrical power, water and hopefully someday a percentage of food growing capability. More on camp life later as I’d like to start contributing to the community on some more manageable items that anyone can do. Things have sure changed over the years…. If you were to ask me ten years ago what survival meant, I probably would have replied that I was all set because I had a Hunting knife, AR-15 and three MRE’s and that would be enough. Looking back, that wasn’t even a good plan for 24 hour period. Instead of starting my first posts with Firearms (because well, its common and there are many resources) I figured I’d start with one of the other three areas that I consider extremely important. Food, Water and Shelter as these are the first three things that will challenge someone in any kind of short or long term situation. If your stuck in your house for a week due to an ice storm/blizzard or if something were to happen that would require you to stay indoors longer these items are going to be on everyones mind very quickly.

Starting with Water Filtration…

Several months ago, our whole house water filter broke, fortunately within a 48 hour timeframe we were able to get the replacement parts from the vendor and get things working again. What occurred to me during that time was that we were VERY unprepared to clean our own water in any kind of quantity and definitely not enough to provide for a family of four, two large dogs and 10+ Chickens. Sure, there are small personal water filters that we use regularly for hiking in the white mountains and we always have a few days worth of water (in bottles or gallons) but none of which can get you beyond a few days. The search was on for a good filter that had one very important criteria (gravity fed with NO power usage). This specific filter came highly recommended via several web recommendations and reviews. I have seen similar setups that are much less expensive through a popular shooting catalog (CTD) and from a DIY perspective if you had the filter cartridges you could fashion something similar with a few buckets and a spout, very easily and cheaply. One very nice advantage to this filter (other than not requiring any power or moving parts) is that with the addition of multiple cartridges you can increase the output. The “crown” which is the largest unit they make will hold 6 gallons and can also filter 6.5 gallons per hour with (two supplied cartridges)… This can be increased to a maximum of 8 cartridges all working together to produce 26 gallons of fresh water per hour.

Water is one of the most important things we’ll need in any kind of disruption to day-to-day life and if you are unable to get it clean you will very likely introduce illness to the group or yourself very quickly…. That would really make a bad situation worse IMO. Every person that works or participates in any type of cold weather activities should have a good pair of winter boots for every member of the family. However, it is possible to get a little confused about winter boots and snow boots. Each type of boot is designed for a specific function. Your use for them should be the most important factor in determining which type of boot you will need.

A winter boot is usually an all purpose type of boot designed for general use in cold weather. They are also usually water-resistant but not water-proof. The snow boot, however, is specifically designed for deep snow and very wet conditions. Almost all snow boots will do a good job of protecting your feet in the winter. Unfortunately, many winter boots are not considered adequate for use in extremely harsh winter weather conditions. Snow boots are basically specialized winter boots.

Snow boots are designed to keep your feet warm and dry in extreme winter weather conditions. They achieve this by generally being water-proof and not simply water-resistant. Winter boots will usually not be able to withstand these extremely harsh conditions and they will eventually get soaked due to these harsh conditions or high snow levels.

Another feature of a good snow boot is what is typically known as a “snow gator”. The majority of winter boots do not have a “snow gator”. A “snow gator” is a design feature that keeps snow from getting into your boot. The most common type of “snow gator” is a drawstring located at the top of the boot. This drawstring allows you to close off the top of the boot and thereby prevent snow from getting into your boot.

Another feature of a good snow boot is their height. A good snow boot is usually taller than a standard winter boot. This extra tall feature also helps to keep snow from getting into the top of your boot. The last and possibly most important feature of a good snow boot is their rubber bottom. Rubber provides 100% waterproofing and is absolutely necessary for any extended time outdoors in cold, wet weather. Snow boots are also a lot easier to clean as a result.

Depending on your winter weather conditions and your intended type of activity outdoors, you will need a good pair of boots for winter weather. Your feet will appreciate it very much!

The Lever Action Rifle For Defense

Lever action rifles have been excellent hunting rifles for close to 150 years. Most people don’t usually consider them for use as a defensive weapon. There are a number of reasons you might want to reconsider it as a defensive rifle. They’re easy to operate, usually quite accurate and carry enough ammo to get the job done. If semi-auto's were banned tomorrow, I'd simply rely on my lever action Marlin 336 as an excellent alternative.

The Marlin Model 336 Lever Action Rifle has a number of good qualities that make it an excellent choice. Its light weight and low recoil, fairly good accuracy, decent range and shot capacity and ease of use are all excellent qualities. Combined with the fact that a wide range of ammo (55 grain to 170 grain) is readily available for the lever action makes it an even better choice for a hunting and defensive weapon combination.

There is another point to consider when talking about lever action rifles in a defensive situation. Using a lever action rifle in a self defense situation would be as close to “politically correct” self defense as possible. It doesn’t look “threatening”. It most assuredly can’t be confused with a “tactical” weapon. It simply looks like someone had to use his hunting rifle to protect himself or his family from a criminal. Unlike the response you may get if they showed what would probably be called an “evil black rifle” to a jury.

Lever action rifles may not be the “best” weapon to have in your arsenal as a defensive rifle and they are certainly not the most modern type of rifle that is available. They are, however, very reliable and more than adequate for most defensive situations and also have a very formidable reputation as an excellent hunting rifle.

Also, don’t sell the .30-30 cartridge short in the ballistics department either. The ballistics of the .30-30 cartridge are also very similar to those for the more specifically designed battle rifle cartridge, the 7.62X39mm Russian which is used for the AK-47.

Here are some figures using the same bullet weight of 150 grain Soft Points for a comparison.

At the muzzle:

1.) 7.62x39mm = 2200fps
2.) .30-30 caliber = 2390fps

At 100 yards:

1.) 7.62x39mm = 1977fps
2.) .30-30 caliber = 2018fps

At 200 yards:

1.) 7.62x39mm = 1769fps
2.) .30-30 caliber = 1605fps

At less than 100 yards, the .30-30 is marginally better than 7.62x39mm.

At 200 yards, the .30-30 is only marginally less than the 7.62x39mm.

At distances over 200 yards, the 7.62x39mm does have an edge over the .30-30.

A similar pattern also occurs with the lighter 125 grain bullet weights.

I generally use 170 grain Remington Core Lokt in my Marlin 336 lever action rifle. I really like the .30/30 because it is an extremely versatile rifle. Even though it should not be considered a substitute for a long range defensive rifle, it should still be more than adequate in the majority of defensive situations. If this is the only rifle you have in your arsenal, there will be no need for you to feel “under-gunned” in any situation.

A Dutch oven is a cooking pot made of metal with a thick wall. It is usually made of cast iron and has a lid that fits tightly to ensure the retention of your food’s nutrients and flavors.

It is believed that early Dutch trader’s cast iron pots gave rise to the name “Dutch Oven”. Since the early days of the American frontier, people have been using Dutch ovens as a method for preparing a variety of foods. This method of preparing food was extremely effective for cooking a large number of food items.

Dutch ovens can be made of aluminum, steel or cast iron. In Australia, a “bedourie” camp oven is a steel cookpot shaped and used like a dutch oven. Named after Bedourie, Queensland, the Bedourie ovens were developed as a more robust (non-breakable) alternative to the more fragile cast iron dutch ovens. It also made them more convenient to carry due to their lighter weight.

NRA Appeals Seventh Circuit Ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court

Fairfax, Va. - Today, the National Rifle Association filed a petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of NRA v. Chicago. The NRA strongly disagrees with yesterday's decision issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, holding that the Second Amendment does not apply to state and local governments.

"The Seventh Circuit got it wrong. As the Supreme Court said in last year's landmark Heller decision, the Second Amendment is an individual right that 'belongs to all Americans'. Therefore, we are taking our case to the highest court in the land," said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. "The Seventh Circuit claimed it was bound by precedent from previous decisions. However, it should have followed the lead of the recent Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Nordyke v. Alameda County, which found that those cases don't prevent the Second Amendment from applying to the states through the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."

This Seventh Circuit opinion upholds current bans on the possession of handguns in Chicago and Oak Park, Illinois.

"It is wrong that the residents of Chicago and Oak Park continue to have their Second Amendment rights denied," Cox concluded. "It's time for the fundamental right of self-defense to be respected by every jurisdiction throughout our country."

My Baby Girl is Sick
My baby girl is sick, stomach virus. I would really appreciate any and all prayers for her. I feel so helpless right now. Fever and throwing up everywhere. She is drinking juice and eating crackers and chips. She is keeping them down pretty good, thank God. She is 3 years old and there is nothing Daddy can do. It's killing me too, I just want to take it all away. Thank you for your prayers, we need them.

Surviving a Cytokine Storm, Brought to You Courtesy of the New World Order

Trillions for Tribute, But Not One Cent for Defense

The US declared, when faced with the demands of the Barbary Pirates who controlled the shipping routes of the Mediterranean around North Africa, Representative Robert Goodloe Harper, declared “Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute.” The concept is deeply enshrined in the consciousness of the US and is the meaning of the reference “To the shores of Tripoli” in the Marine’s Hymn, learned by every child in America.

Like so much else in the US, for example, the protections and provisions of the US Constitution, that deep understanding has been violated by the grim and terrible grasp of the Pharma Pirates on our lives. We do, in fact, pay trillions of dollars, and billions of person years of suffering and death, as tribute to the pirates who control our national and personal decisions with lies and more lies - Big Pharma. When the people of America learn to “Say No to Drugs”, we will have moved a long way toward freeing ourselves from the tribute and tyranny of the Phama Pirates.Pandemic Flu is thought to kill people because the immune system recognizes that it has encountered a pathogen (disease - causing agent, in this case a virus) and sends out signaling molecules called cytokines, (Greek cyto-, cell; and -kinos, movement). They can be proteins, peptides, or glycoproteins. Once those signals are received, the immune system springs into action and mounts a defense. In the case of the weaponized pandemic viruses, the defense can be so strong that it literally overwhelms the person who has been infected and causes death because the immune system itself has overwhelmed the lungs, leading to so much inflammation that they cannot carry out their essential function of exchanging gases.

Cytokine Storms and the Pharma Pirates

Cytokines are powerful signaling molecules which cells sends out in order to get a response. The word itself comes from the Greek for cell (cyto) and movement (kinos).
Pandemic, bioengineered virus are believe to kill by evoking a massive cytokine response, called a “cytokine storm” which is so powerful that the immune system itself overwhelms the lung capacity of the infected person and the number of immune cells, along with the massive inflammation (which is an immune technique to isolate an infective agent) fills up the lungs so they cannot carry out their job of exchanging gases and the patient dies.

But like any storm, it will abate and normal conditions can prevail again. If the cytokine storm provoked as an initial response to the virus can be managed for approximately 3 days, the body’s immune response is normalized, becomes more efficient, and it then kills out the virus in the ordinary way that it usually does. The result is called “surviving the pandemic flu”. H1N1 appears to be pretty poor at evoking a lethal cytokine storm.

I would call it another in the growing list of failed pandemics: SARS, Avian Flu, Swine Flu….

The WHO and CDC, however, have assured us that we can expect a lethal global pandemic from this same virus in the fall of 2009, just exactly, we are told, when the vaccine “against” this newly lethal killer virus is ready. We are astonished and awed by the ability of these organizations to predict the future and prepare for it so profitably. The billions spent on the absurd Avian Flu (H5N1) vaccines and the useless failed Rumsfeld antiviral, Tamiflu, of course, are now simply black lines on the spreadsheets of Big Pharma, another example of the monumental depravity of that industry and its governmental (and intergovernmental) servants, including the Oval Office.

In the document called “Concept of Operations of the UN In a Global Influenza Pandemic”, the final footnote (p.10) reads:

The procedures contained in this CONOPS framework will need to be tested at global, regional and country level to ensure their utility and allow for revisions where necessary. Several UN country teams have already conducted simulations to test coordination structures and other procedures outlines in their pandemic plans. Further simulation exercises at regional and global level are needed to test coordination structures and operating procedures. Such large scale simulations will require the commitment of different UN entities. It is anticipated that this CONOPS will continue to be tested through simulation exercises at global, regional and country levels during 2009. [Emphasis added - REL]

That looks very much to me like the reason that the failed pandemic of 2009 is being pursued as if it were a threat to anyone. Right now it is a real threat, but it is a threat to our liberty, our nations, our freedoms. Later this fall, if the plans hold, it would appear that the bad boy version will be ready and released - probably through the vaccines which we will be expected to line up for willingly. Remember, if you do not line up for them willingly, you will be subject to the federal powers which our spineless Congress has authorized and to the same powers of the States under their Emergency Medical Powers Acts. Those powers define you as a felon if you refuse vaccination once a Pandemic has been declared at the State level and a health hazard at the federal level. Once so identified, you are subject to immediate long-term incarceration and quarantine. At the state level, as a felon, you could be sent to prison. At the federal level you could be held indefinitely at one of the many FEMA camps which have been established all over the US (and Canada?).

So the storm is political, global and physical, all at once.

Before I discuss how to safely quell a cytokine storm, let me ask you a question or two:
Did you vote for the dissolution of your country in this last election?
Are you eager to have the UN run a global government?
Do you think that the UN would ever hand back control to the nation states after the pandemic is over, if it ever IS over?
Do you agree with the globalist position that the solution to global warming and overpopulation is population culling so that 80-90% of the world’s population no longer exists? If so, are you willing to step up and volunteer yourself and your family for the culling?

Quelling the Storm

So how do you control a cytokine storm without subjecting yourself to even more dangerous drugs? Simple. There are many well known natural means of doing so.

First and foremost is Vitamin C. Good ole’, familiar Vitamin C. When your body needs vitamin C, which we have somehow misplaced the gene which allows us to make during the course of our development, it tolerates more. So you need to give it more. How much more? Well, as much as you can cram in during a cytokine storm (and in the face of a full blown infection with a pandemic, bioengineered virus) - I prefer intravenous delivery systems so that up to 300 G per day can be delivered for 3 days. Since part of the impact of these viruses seems to be a cataclysmic depletion of the body’s Vitamin C stores, this is very important.

By the way, when I first published this information, I was roundly castigated by a variety of people who should have known better. Shortly thereafter, they began publishing this information as if it were their own. Ah, well! The real point is to get it out there where it can help people, but an accurate attribution would be nice!

If IV administration is not possible (and it would not be available for most people), then ingesting LARGE amounts of oral Vitamin C would be the way to go. The body will tell you when it has had enough Vitamin C: bowel tolerance is the signal that its needs have been met. That means diarrhea or softening of stools. However, the novel H1N1 virus produces diarrhea as a part of its infection process so I would say ignore that sign and just put lots and lots of Vitamin C into the patient. There is no known level of toxicity for Vitamin C and it is a powerful immune support - which is why Big Pharma, through Codex, would love to restrict it to the point that there is no useful dose available.

Should you stock pile Vitamin C? I believe you should. Should you use Vitamin C from GMO sources? Of course not. That means that it must be organic. You can visit www.Organics4U.org to find organic Vitamin C sources. Non GMO sourcing is a vitally important consideration, by the way.

Next, Nano silver. As you know, Nano silver is different from colloidal or other silver types. It is literally a myth and not a real concern.”)

Note that there is some suggestion that the old anti-malaria drug chloroquine will quell the cytokine storm as would AcetylCholinEsterase inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). You will not see this heart-stopping photo on the front page of the NY Times, nor on the lead story of the major news networks. The protestors at Montebello High School took the American flag off the school's flag pole and hung it upside down while putting up the Mexican flag over it.

I predict this stunt will be the nail in the coffin of any guest-worker/amnesty plan on the table in Washington ... The image of the American flag subsumed to another and turned upside down on American soil is already spreading on Internet forums and via e-mail.

Pass this along to every American citizen in your address books and to every representative in the state and federal government.. If you choose to remain uninvolved, do not be amazed when you no longer have a nation to call your own nor anything you have worked for left since it will be 'redistributed' to the activists while you are so peacefully staying out of the 'fray'. Check history, it is full of nations/empires that disappeared when its citizens no longer held their core beliefs and values. One person CAN make a difference.

For the residents of New York City, who are still understandably edgy about big planes and big sounds, there was only one possible explanation: another hijacking and possible suicide attack by some terrorist group that hates America.

The reality – that the White House Military Office had authorized the “mission” in order to get a 30-minute publicity shot of the presidential plane against a backdrop of the Statue of Liberty – was almost just as shocking as if Al-Qaeda had been at the controls.

After reading what I have to say, if you'd like me to step down and let someone else take over this blog, just say the word and it's done. No hard feelings. With that said, here goes.
I believe in a Creator. I believe we all were created equal. I also believe we all evolve in different ways. To grow in our understanding. Occasionally I take the time to talk to the Creator. I don't like the state of affairs this world is in. We seem to be caught in a net. I believe this can change if enough people change their thinking and actions. We've allowed others to decide for us as if we were babies. WTF's up with that? Aren't we adults with minds to think for ourselves?
We need to get out of this net and think for ourselves. I ask the Creator why the world is in such a mess. Why do we all fight all the time? Country against country. Brother and sister against each other. The answer I received is that man brought it on himself. That is hard to swallow, nevertheless it is the truth. And we, the common people, are not the only ones to blame. We can blame the greedy leaders of our institutions, churches and religious institutions, and government for deliberately misleading us. It's about keeping us enslaved for money, politics, and power. They feed us the bait and we eat it every freakin' time, just like sheep.
I don't have any proof, but it seems to me that if avian, swine and human flu mix together it must have been done in a lab somewhere, and if that's so, WHICH I'M NOT SAYING IT IS, but it seems to me like that might be bio-warfare. I'm not using the words lightly, nor am I making accusations. But for them to be together, to be supposedly to hit on a certain date, for there to be practice scenarios, and for the governments to be concerned about a world wide pandemic...something must be going on. Oh yeah, but then I forgot, sometimes I get paranoid. Perhaps that's all it is. Gods but I hope that's all it is. Hell I don't know anything. This is just supposition on my part. But it does all bear thinking about.

On March 13th 2008 there was a secret closed door meeting of The United States House Of Representatives in Washington. In the history of The United States this is only the fourth time a secret meeting was held by the house. Even though Representatives are sworn to secrecy by House Rules XVII, some of the members were so shocked, horrified, furious, and concerned about the future of America by what was revealed to them inside the secret meeting, that they have started to leak this secret information to independent news agencies around the world. The mass media said almost nothing about the secret meeting of the House, mentioning only one of the items being discussed. (The new surveillance techniques that are going to be used by the U.S. Government to watch all American citizens). The story was first released in a newspaper out of Brisbane, Australia revealing the contents of the secret U.S. Government meeting and plans for America including all of it’s citizens. Shortly there after, David J. Meyer from Last Trumpet Ministries found it and made it more available for the world to see.

Here is what was revealed:

* The imminent collapse of the U.S. Economy to occur sometime in late 2008
* The imminent collapse of the U.S. Government finances sometime in mid 2009
* The possibility of Civil War inside the United States as a result of the collapse

Except for a few hundred thousand U.S. Patriots, most Americans have no clue what has really been going on within The United States over the past 100 years, and the sad thing is that most do not want to know the truth. House Bill H.R. 1955/S-1959 was read by the senate and then sent to DHS for some reason, but is now back and sure to pass. Once passed, this bill introduced by Jane Harman (D/CA), will be the proverbial last nail hammered into every American patriots coffin. H.R. 4279 or the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008 which was recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, will give the government draconian powers to do just this. This legislation gives the government the power to seize property that facilitates the violation of intellectual property laws. The legislation also mandates the formation of a formal Intellectual Property Enforcement Division within the office of the Deputy Attorney General to enforce this insanity…

It has been revealed that F.E.M.A. has been building internment camps all over America granting Halliburton a massive $385 million dollar construction contract to make this happen. Most of these sites only need refurbished because they are mostly closed prisons, old WW2 internment camps still intact and other facilities taken over by the government. Some people have referred to them as F.E.M.A. Death Camps where the infamous Red list/Blue Lists will be used to decide who goes where.

Whether you believe that The NWO/Illuminati/Globalization is real or not, there is a lot of proof that exposes definite plans or plots by the rich, political and religious elite to bring on an era of the end times. It is almost like some individuals are trying to make bible prophecy come true in their own sick and twisted ways. Not to mention that the world only has about 10 to 15 years of drinking water left before the wars fought for oil today will be fought for water in the near future. It has been said that these powers want to depopulate the planet of over 30% of it’s human inhabitants in the coming years. Examine all of the executive orders that have been signed into place allowing the president to basically become dictator in control of all government from tribal to federal in the event of any national emergency.

If you did not know, In late 2006, Congress revised the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act to make it far easier for a president to declare martial law. Those changes were repealed at the end of this January as part of Public Law 110-181 (HR 4986), the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (signed into law by President Bush on January 28, 2008). Unfortunately it is not the great victory in which one might think because of the total militarization of all local and State police forces all across America.

Will there be martial law? Is martial law coming soon to America? When you see law enforcement being armed with automatic weapons, bullet proof vests and riot gear in small towns that have not had a murder or crime in years, then you have to ask yourself why.

The United States has more people locked up in prisons today than Russia and China combined. It comes out to one in every hundred Americans is behind bars. Our once great country that our ancestors fought and died for has become exactly the tyrants they were fighting. Fascists! When has America ever used words like Homeland? Never!

If you spend a few weeks reading all the info, watching the videos and following the links at Dprogram.net, you will then have a better understanding of what has led to ‘The Decline And Fall Of America’. Remember that Knowledge is power! Learn, look, listen, read, share, prepare, train, stock up on food and water supply for one year.

Fill your pantry with non perishable foods, medicines, cooking oils, tinned meats and veggies. Flour, oats dried corn peas, beans and lentils.. Teach your self how to preserve food for storage. Check out your local potable/ drinking water supplies, non perfumed chlorine bleach is a good sterilizer for water, about 2 teaspoons full per 2 gallon bucket, stirred well and allowed to stand for at least 24 hours with a lid on it or until it no longer smells of bleach. Boiling water helps but it is not always enough to kill off the bacteria which can resist high temperatures.

Americans have been warned for years of the things to come, but have blindly looked away from the truth, which has been available for all to see. This is an insult and a kick in the butt to all of us.

Get mad and pass it on - I don't know how, but maybe some good

If the immigrant is over 65, they can apply for SSI and Medicaid and get

more than a woman on Social Security, who worked from 1944 until 2004.

She is only getting $ 791 per month because she was born in 1924 and

there's a 'catch 22..'

It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee

with a monthly allowance of $1,890. Each can also obtain an

additional $580 in social assistance, for a total of $2,470 a month.

This compares to a single pensioner, who after contributing to

the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years, can only

receive a monthly maximum of $1,012 in old age pension and

Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Consider sending this to all your American friends, so we can all be

ticked off and maybe get the refugees cut back to $1,012 and the

pensioners up to $2,470. Then we can enjoy some of the money we were

forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 or 60 years.

Jesse Maloney of Keene was arrested today for attempting to garden in Central Square. Maloney had this to say about his civil disobedience:

"Last Thursday, the Keene City Council passed a… piece of legislation… wherein they gave 5,000 dollars to a group so they can do a “feasibility” study for a local co-op. Now, of course there is nothing wrong with a co-op by its own nature; they’re a great resource for individuals to attain healthy, local food. However, the price is not worth it. 5,000 dollars hijacked from citizens and individuals who may never even pick up fruit from this venture, 5,000 dollars stolen from the neighbors of these leeches. As much as I try to be unsurprised by the actions of the State, they reasoning here is just mind-blowing– take money that isn’t theirs for a project they’re not even sure will pan out for an idea they insist will be “good” for the community when they don’t even have the data to support that!

So, I’m going to go out to Central Square of Keene this weekend to prove a point– that you don’t need to use government money (that is, stolen money) to make a great project for the community come to realization. I plan on working from sun up to sun down on the grounds of Central Square, tilling the land and planting seeds for a community-accesible garden on public land. No cost will be incurred by the city or the locals, and the garden will be open to all who want to add their own labor or donate to defray the costs of my labor.

I don’t have much to add to this, because I think it all speaks for itself. Government is doing something stupid, something inefficient, and I’m going to demonstrate how you can do these things right in front of their offices, how this all works without incurring costs onto an unwilling populace."

Lt. Maxfield of the Keene Police said the charge was "excavating without a permit". He claimed that Jesse would be hitting buried power lines with his hoe. Maloney was released with a $120 ticket. He plans to contest the charge in court.

I was reading an email which had a link to another site. I clicked and listened to the videos. I gotta say, I damn near freaked out, over the freakin' date! I don't call myself a Christian, but I do believe in a Creator. I also know that our thoughts have much to do with what we perceive as our own personal reality. I hope for the best.
And with that said, I believe we had best be prepared. If my thoughts seem to be disjointed, please just bear with me. I have ADHD, so sometimes I suppose it's kinda hard to follow my reasoning at time. If you have a hard time with it, just think how my daughters felt when they were growing up, and now the grandkids. LOL
anyway...
Ok. Revelations talks about a few things happening before the NWO happens. While I'm not a Christian, I do have a relationship with the Creator, and I do believe much of the Bible (KJV) is true. I also believe the Mayans calendar is correct as far as it goes. I have studied the history of the calendar, and it seems to be off by 3-3.5 years. The Mayan Calender stops at 2012, Dec. 12. They correlated the Mayan Calendar with our calendar. If our calendar is off by 3-3.5 years, then so is their calculations. The Planet X they speak of is spoken of in ancient history of the Sumerians. (I'm trying to tie this all together.) Again, with all tat said, there are things that must happen, and they have to be in order. I mean, certain events lead to other events. It's a fact that mankind has totally made a muddle of thinks, it's not totally fubar yet. I suppose you're wondering what all this has to do with being prepared, and with survival. Just this. I know things are bad, and I would like them to be better for all of us. I told my oldest daughter my concerns, and this is what she said. "Mom, you know better. You can be prepared and that's fine. But don't go thinking bad all the time, because what you focus on is what you bring to yourself." This is all too true, as I've found over the years. I've got two daughters, and they've both went back to school now that their kids are a little older. I would like to see them finish school, and make things better for themselves. I'm proud of them. To think things are so f'd up that it makes no difference is just plain depressing, so much so that I was ready to bug out to the nearest mountain top. In other words, I was in a panic state. That is totally unacceptable. I will continue to prepare, physically, mentally and spiritually. I will continue to run my online info businesses. But I refuse to allow myself to panic and freak out. I have things to do, and that ain't one of 'em.
Now back to the date setting. Whatever happens will only happen when it's supposed to. Regardless of their plans.
It is good to be prepared, and bad to freak out.

As the row over MPs' living expenses has developed, several have expressed the fear that the reputation for parliament and the public's respect for politicians would be irreversibly affected.

They are right to be worried but it is the spectacle of common abuse of housing allowances combined with the failure to defend Britain's liberties from our civil servants and European bureaucrats that is so damaging. MPs' ideas of a sovereign parliament appear to be limited to the retention of their own personal information and the abuse of taxpayers' trust. Forget any notion of MPs standing up to Europe or reigning in an increasingly autonomous civil service.

Today, an EU directive comes into force which will compel all internet service providers to retain information from all emails and website visits. Data from phone calls and text messages will also be stored and made available to the government, its agencies and local authorities. Having seen how local officials have abused anti-terrorist laws, it's not hard to imagine the damage to privacy that will ensure.

These powers were brought in by a statutory instrument and so were not debated by either house. The accepted view is that the Home Office now bypasses parliament by lobbying Europe directly in the knowledge that the measures they desire will go undebated and unscrutinised, then be smuggled into British law as a European directive.

It is difficult to think of anything that makes the House of Commons look more feckless or more redundant.

The Conservatives believe that the law may enable the creation of a massive communications data silo that will store the content of every email and phone call. This has been long desired by the Home Office and GCHQ but the government has failed to bring the interception modernisation programme before parliament, perhaps because the penny is beginning to drop about privacy. And the costs are estimated to be as much as £12bn.

Baroness Neville-Jones said last week in the House of Lords "The government has not been able to satisfy these benches that last week's statutory instrument did not create a vehicle through which the interception modernisation programme could be carried into practice without further primary legislation."

It seems amazing that parliament, now on another long break, is not able to establish whether this statutory instrument allows the home secretary, one of the ministers accused of fiddling their housing allowances, to create the data silo without primary legislation and the full debate that the British public must surely require from its elected representatives on such a vital issue.

As of this morning, essential information about your internet activity and phone calls has passed into the hands of government and its agencies and every local government gauleiter who suspects you of challenging his or her authority.

Monday 6 April may be seen as milestone on the way to a police state and the "the hell house" of personal information about which the former DPP Sir Ken Macdonald warned last year. It is certainly a date to remember in the long slide of the standing of MPs, who I very much doubt were even aware of this directive.

crochet or knit a square

This is to whomever knits or crochets. I receive a couple of crochet and knit newsletters via email. One of them was referring to an knit a square to help kids in South Africa. Don't take what I'm going to day the wrong way, since I think it's a great idea to help kids and others anywhere. But I have yet to see one here, to help people in America.
If any of you have any idea how to do this, and to get the product out to those who need help with blankets or afghans, I wouldn't mind contributing squares, since I do like to crochet sometimes. It would probably be best if we worked on a local level. I know it's spring, but by the time cold weather gets here, it seems to me we should/would have quite a few squares crocheted or knitted. Someone would receive them, and connect all the squares together to make afghans or blankets of various sizes. I would like these to be available to whoever needs them, without having to fill out a bunch of paperwork to get one.

Some of the people in office here in NH received 'suspicious' envelopes in the mail. They sent them to labs to be examined. All the envelopes contained tea. They had no idea why anyone would send them tea. TEA = Taxed Enough Already.

Did ya hear or read about the cigarette tax hike? How pathetic they are in they're underhanded way to make people stop smoking. I'm not saying it's good for ya, but on the other hand, I don't think it's any worse than the toxic BS that's put in the air, soil and water.
I've read some of the things that are written about the effects of smoking, and I've read articles that say just the opposite. I don't think it causes any more than anything else does.
Point is, it's my body and I should be the one to choose what goes into it.

Single Largest Cigarette Tax Hike Goes Into Effect Wednesday
President Obama signed a law early in his administration to raise taxes from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack of cigarettes and from 19.5 cents to 50 cents per pound for chewing tobacco.

WASHINGTON -- However they satisfy their nicotine cravings, tobacco users are facing a big hit as the single largest federal tobacco tax increase ever takes effect Wednesday.

Tobacco companies and public health advocates, longtime foes in the nicotine battles, are trying to turn the situation to their advantage. The major cigarette makers raised prices a couple of weeks ago, partly to offset any drop in profits once the per-pack tax climbs from 39 cents to $1.01.

Medical groups see a tax increase right in the middle of a recession as a great incentive to help persuade smokers to quit.

Tobacco taxes are soaring to finance a major expansion of health insurance for children. President Obama signed that health initiative soon after taking office.

Other tobacco products, from cigars to pipes and smokeless, will see similarly large tax increases, too. For example, the tax on chewing tobacco will go up from 19.5 cents per pound to 50 cents. The total expected to be raised over the 4 1/2 year-long health insurance expansion is nearly $33 billion.

Smokers are mulling their options.

Standing outside an office building in downtown Washington last week, 29-year-old Sam Sarkhosh puffed on a Marlboro Light. His 8-year-old daughter has been pleading with him to quit, he explained, and he has set a goal to give up smoking by his 30th birthday.

"I'm trying to quit smoking, and it could help," said Sarkhosh, an information systems specialist. "I don't think it will stop me from buying cigarettes every now and then, but definitely not as often." A friend who smokes Camels went out and bought four cartons in advance, he said.

The tax increase is only the first move in a recharged anti-smoking campaign. Congress also is considering legislation to empower the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco. That could lead to reformulated cigarettes. Obama, who has agonized over his own cigarette habit, said he would sign such a bill.

Prospects for reducing the harm from smoking are better than they have been in years, said Dr. Timothy Gardner, president of the American Heart Association. The tax increase "is a terrific public health move by the federal government," he said. "Every time that the tax on tobacco goes up, the use of cigarettes goes down."

About one in five adults in the United States smokes cigarettes. That's a gradually dwindling share, though it isn't shrinking fast enough for public health advocates.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cigarette smoking results in an estimated 443,000 premature deaths each year, and costs the economy $193 billion in health care expenses and lost time from work. Smoking is a major contributor to heart disease, cancer and lung disease.

Public health officials are urging individual doctors and staff at telephone "quit lines" in every state to make the most of the tax increase by reaching out to smokers. But it's unclear how deeply the tax will cut into tobacco consumption.

Eric Lindblom, research director for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, says he expects a drop of at least 6 percent to 7 percent among young smokers.

Philip Gorham, who tracks the tobacco business for Morningstar, the investment research firm, said he expects an overall drop of 4 percent to 5 percent this year. What happens after that is less certain, especially as the economy recovers.

"I would expect a road bump this year," said Gorham. "But these companies will still be extremely profitable. I still think they will make their return on capital by wide margins in the long run."

Philip Morris USA, the largest tobacco company and maker of Marlboro, is forecasting a drop, but spokesman Bill Phelps said he cannot predict how big. Philip Morris raised Marlboro prices by 71 cents a pack early this month, and prices on smaller brands by 81 cents a pack. Other major companies followed suit.

The pricing moves raised eyebrows. "That's nothing more than greed," said Kevin Altman, an industry consultant who advises small tobacco companies. "They weren't required to charge that until April 1. They are just putting that into their pockets."

Responded Phelps: "We raised our prices in direct response to the federal excise tax increase, and people who are upset about that should find out how their member of Congress voted, and contact him or her."

Some policy analysts have questioned the wisdom of boosting tobacco taxes to finance health care for children. They argue that the fate of such a broad program should not depend on revenues derived from a minority of the adult population, many of whom have low incomes and are hooked on a habit. The tobacco industry is also warning that the steep increase will lead to tax evasion through old-fashioned smuggling or by Internet purchase from abroad.

But smoking control advocates such as Lindblom say tobacco taxes should be even higher. "There's a lot of room to go after cigars and smokeless," he said. "We are certainly hopeful that health care reform will include some more increases."

Standing outside a Washington department store, attorney Margaret Webster, 42, puffed on a Marlboro Ultra Light and lamented the fact that the government is reaching deeper into her pocketbook.

"I don't think we (smokers) like it," she said. "But I've heard so many people say they were going to quit when the price went up ... and they're still smoking."

I went to the HR-645 to check this out. Pretty much as he says, I think. I don't believe in coincidences, but I find it funny that HR-645 has the same number as my post office box. Maybe a message there? No idea, but I'm trying to deal with facts, and not just speculation. I do know that I've came across this same kind of news in the mid to late 90's when I was big time into reading and learning about survival skills, etc. I stopped doing that, and have forgotten most of what I read. Now I wish I'd kept up with it all. Hindsight is 20/20.
It's been referred to the Committee. But I rather think, they could pass and implement it if they wish to.
I was reading on one of the blogs that we need a Revolution. I think he's right.

I also read some of the comments that were left on the site in regards to Chuck Norris. I'm not militia, although some people on that particular site seem to maybe be. Chuck Norris claims thousands of right wing cell groups exist and will rebel against U.S. government

The call by some right wing leaders for rebellion and for the military to refuse the commander in chief’s orders is joined by Chuck Norris who claims that thousands of right wing cell groups have organized and are ready for a second American Revolution. During an appearance on the Glen Beck radio show he promised that if things get any worse from his point of view he may “run for president of Texas.” The martial artist/actor/activist claims that Texas was never formally a part of the United States in the first place and that if rebellion is to come through secession Texas would lead the way.

Today in his syndicated column on WorldNetDaily Norris reiterates the point: “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

He continues; calling on a second American Revolution; “…we've bastardized the First Amendment, reinterpreted America's religious history and secularized our society until we ooze skepticism and circumvent religion on every level of public and private life.

How much more will Americans take? When will enough be enough? And, when that time comes, will our leaders finally listen or will history need to record a second American Revolution? Norris claims that; “Thousands of cell groups will be united around the country in solidarity over the concerns for our nation.” The right wing cells will meet during a live telecast, "We Surround Them," on Friday March 13 at 5 p.m.

He closes with the words of Sam Houston followed by a plug for his next martial arts event.

“We view ourselves on the eve of battle."

Legislation to Establish Internment Camps on US Military Bases

The Economic and Social Crisis

The financial meltdown has unleashed a latent and emergent social crisis across the United States.

What is at stake is the fraudulent confiscation of lifelong savings and pension funds, the appropriation of tax revenues to finance the trillion dollar "bank bailouts", which ultimately serve to line the pockets of the richest people in America.

This economic crisis is in large part the result of financial manipulation and outright fraud to the detriment of entire populations, leading to a renewed wave of corporate bankruptcies, mass unemployment and poverty.

The criminalization of the global financial system, characterized by a "Shadow Banking" network has resulted in the centralization of bank power and an unprecedented concentration of private wealth.

Obama's "economic stimulus" package and budget proposals contribute to a further process of concentration and centralization of bank power, the cumulative effects of which will eventually resul in large scale corporate, bankruptcies, a new wave of foreclosures not to mention fiscal collapse and the downfall of State social programs. The cumulative decline of real economic activity backlashes on employment and wages, which in turn leads to a collapse in purchaisng power. The proposed "solution" under the Obama administration contributes to exacerbating rather than alleviating social inequalities and the process of wealth concentration.

The Protest Movement

When people across America, whose lives have been shattered and destroyed, come to realize the true face of the global "free market" system, the legitimacy of Wall Street, the Federal Reserve and the US administration will be challenged.

A latent protest movement directed against the seat of economic and political power is unfolding.

How this process will occur is hard to predict. All sectors of American society are potentially affected: wage earners, small, medium and even large businesses, farmers, professionals, federal, State and municipal employees, students, teachers, health workers, and unemployed. Protests will initially emerge from these various sectors. There is, however, at this stage, no organized national resistance movement directed against the administration's economic and financial agenda.

Obama's populist rhetoric conceals the true nature of macro-economic policy. Acting on behalf of Wall Street, the administration's economic package, which includes close to a trillion dollar "aid" package for the financial services industry, coupled with massive austerity measures, contributes to precipitating America into a bottomless crisis.

"Orwellian Solution" to the Great Depression: Curbing Civil Unrest

At this particular juncture, there is no economic recovery program in sight. The Washington-Wall Street consensus prevails. There are no policies, no alternatives formulated from within the political and economic system. .

What is the way out? How will the US government face an impending social catastrophe?

The solution is to curb social unrest. The chosen avenue, inherited from the outgoing Bush administration is the reinforcement of the Homeland Security apparatus and the militarization of civilian State institutions.

The outgoing administration has laid the groundwork. Various pieces of "anti-terrorist" legislation (including the Patriot Acts) and presidential directives have been put in place since 2001, largely using the pretext of the "Global War on Terrorism."

Homeland Security's Internment Camps

Directly related to the issue of curbing social unrest, cohesive system of detention camps is also envisaged, under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon.

A bill entitled the National Emergency Centers Establishment Act (HR 645) was introduced in the US Congress in January. It calls for the establishment of six national emergency centers in major regions in the US to be located on existing military installations. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-645

The stated purpose of the "national emergency centers" is to provide "temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster." In actuality, what we are dealing with are FEMA internment camps. HR 645 states that the camps can be used to "meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security."

There has been virtually no press coverage of HR 645.

These "civilian facilities" on US military bases are to be established in cooperation with the US Military. Modeled on Guantanamo, what we are dealing with is the militarization of FEMA internment facilities.

Once a person is arrested and interned in a FEMA camp located on a military base, that person would in all likelihood, under a national emergency, fall under the de facto jurisdiction of the Military: civilian justice and law enforcement including habeas corpus would no longer apply.

HR 645 bears a direct relationship to the economic crisis and the likelihood of mass protests across America. It constitutes a further move to militarize civilian law enforcement, repealing the Posse Comitatus Act.

In the words of Rep. Ron Paul:

"...the fusion centers, militarized police, surveillance cameras and a domestic military command is not enough... Even though we know that detention facilities are already in place, they now want to legalize the construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever popular excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency. With the phony debt-based economy getting worse and worse by the day, the possibility of civil unrest is becoming a greater threat to the establishment. One need only look at Iceland, Greece and other nations for what might happen in the United States next." (Daily Paul, September 2008, emphasis added)

The proposed internment camps should be seen in relation to the broader process of militarization of civilian institutions. The construction of internment camps predates the introduction of HR 645 (Establishment of Emergency Centers) in January 2009. There are, according to various (unconfirmed) reports, some 800 FEMA prison camps in different regions of the U.S. Moreover, since the 1980s, the US military has developed "tactics, techniques and procedures" to suppress civilian dissent, to be used in the eventuality of mass protests (United States Army Field Manual 19-15 under Operation Garden Plot, entitled "Civil Disturbances" was issued in 1985)

In early 2006, tax revenues were allocated to building modern internment camp facilities. In January 2006, Kellogg Brown and Roots, which at the time was a subsidiary of Halliburton, received a $385 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE):

"The contract, which is effective immediately [January 2006], provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs...

The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other U.S. Government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster. (KBR, 24 January 2006, emphasis added)

The stated objectives of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are to:

"protect national security and uphold public safety by targeting criminal networks and terrorist organizations that seek to exploit vulnerabilities in our immigration system, in our financial networks, along our border, at federal facilities and elsewhere in order to do harm to the United States. The end result is a safer, more secure America" (ICE homepage)

The US media is mum on the issue of the internment camps on US soil. While casually acknowledging the multimillion dollar contract granted to Halliburton's subsidiary, the news reports largely focused their attention on possible "cost overruns" (similar to those which occurred with KBR in Iraq).

What is the political intent and purpose of these camps? The potential use of these internment facilities to detain American citizens under a martial law situation are not an object of media debate or discussion.

Combat Units Assigned to the Homeland

In the last months of the Bush administration, prior to the November 2008 presidential elections, the Department of Defense ordered the recall of the 3rd Infantry’s 1st Brigade Combat Team from Iraq. The relocation of a combat unit from the war theater to domestic front is an integral part of the Homeland Security agenda. The BCT was assigned to assist in law enforcement activities within the US.

The BCT combat unit was attached to US Army North, the Army's component of US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). The 1st BCT and other combat units would be called upon to perform specific military functions in the case of civil unrest:

The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded,” 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.(

Under the proposed withdrawal of US forces from Iraq under the Obama administration, one expects that other combat units will be brought home from the war theater and reassigned in the United States.

The evolving national security scenario is characterized by a mesh of civilian and military institutions:

-Army combat units working with civilian law enforcement, with the stated mission to curb "social unrest".

- the establishment of new internment camps under civilian jurisdiction located on US military facilities.

The FEMA internment camps are part of the Continuity of Government (COG), which would be put in place in the case of martial law.

The internment camps are intended to "protect the government" against its citizens, by locking up protesters as well as political activists who might challenge the legitimacy of the Administration's national security, economic or military agenda.

Spying on Americans: The Big Brother Data Bank

Related to the issue of internment and mass protests, how will data on American citizens be collected?

How will individuals across America be categorized?

What are the criteria of the Department of Homeland Security?

In a 2004 report of the Homeland Security Council entitled Planning Scenarios, pertaining to the defense of the Homeland, the following categories of potential "conspirators" were identified:

"foreign [Islamic] terrorists" ,

"domestic radical groups", [antiwar and civil rights groups]

"state sponsored adversaries" ["rogue states", "unstable nations"]

"disgruntled employees" [labor and union activists].

In June of last year, the Bush administration issued a National Security Presidential Directive (NSPD 59- HSPD 24) entitled Biometrics for Identification and Screening to Enhance National Security (For Further details see Michel Chossudovsky, "Big Brother" Presidential Directive: "Biometrics for Identification and Screening to Enhance National Security", Global Research, June 2008)

Adopted without public debate or Congressional approval, its relevant procedures are far-reaching. They are related to the issue of civil unrest. They are also part of the logic behind the establishment of FEMA internment camps under HR 645. .

NSPD 59 (Biometrics for Identification and Screening to Enhance National Security) goes far beyond the narrow issue of biometric identification, it recommends the collection and storage of "associated biographic" information, meaning information on the private lives of US citizens, in minute detail, all of which will be "accomplished within the law":

"The contextual data that accompanies biometric data includes information on date and place of birth, citizenship, current address and address history, current employment and employment history, current phone numbers and phone number history, use of government services and tax filings. Other contextual data may include bank account and credit card histories, plus criminal database records on a local, state and federal level. The database also could include legal judgments or other public records documenting involvement in legal disputes, child custody records and marriage or divorce records."(See Jerome Corsi, June 2008)

The directive uses 9/11 and the "Global War on Terrorism" as an all encompassing justification to wage a witch hunt against dissenting citizens, establishing at the same time an atmosphere of fear and intimidation across the land.

It also calls for the integration of various data banks as well as inter-agency cooperation in the sharing of information, with a view to eventually centralizing the information on American citizens.

In a carefully worded text, NSPD 59 "establishes a framework" to enable the Federal government and its various police and intelligence agencies to:

"use mutually compatible methods and procedures in the collection, storage, use, analysis, and sharing of biometric and associated biographic and contextual information of individuals in a lawful and appropriate manner, while respecting their information privacy and other legal rights under United States law."

The NSPD 59 Directive recommends: "actions and associated timelines for enhancing the existing terrorist-oriented identification and screening processes by expanding the use of biometrics".

The procedures under NSPD 59 are consistent with an earlier June 2005 decision which consisted in creating a "domestic spy service", under the auspices of the FBI. (For further details see Michel Chossudovsky, Bush Administration creates "Secret State Police", June 30, 2005)

Working hand in glove with Homeland Security (DHS), the proposed "domestic intelligence department" would combine FBI counterterrorism, intelligence and espionage operations into a single service.

The new department operating under the auspices of the FBI would have the authority to "seize the property of people deemed to be helping the spread of WMD": They would be able to "spy on people in America suspected of terrorism or having critical intelligence information, even if they are not suspected of committing a crime." To direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish national emergency centers on military installations.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘National Emergency Centers Establishment Act’.

SEC. 2. ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY CENTERS.

(a) In General- In accordance with the requirements of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall establish not fewer than 6 national emergency centers on military installations.

(b) Purpose of National Emergency Centers- The purpose of a national emergency center shall be to use existing infrastructure--

(1) to provide temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster;

(2) to provide centralized locations for the purposes of training and ensuring the coordination of Federal, State, and local first responders;

(3) to provide centralized locations to improve the coordination of preparedness, response, and recovery efforts of government, private, and not-for-profit entities and faith-based organizations; and

(4) to meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

SEC. 3. DESIGNATION OF MILITARY INSTALLATIONS AS NATIONAL EMERGENCY CENTERS.

(a) In General- Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, shall designate not fewer than 6 military installations as sites for the establishment of national emergency centers.

(b) Minimum Requirements- A site designated as a national emergency center shall be--

(1) capable of meeting for an extended period of time the housing, health, transportation, education, public works, humanitarian and other transition needs of a large number of individuals affected by an emergency or major disaster;

(2) environmentally safe and shall not pose a health risk to individuals who may use the center;

(3) capable of being scaled up or down to accommodate major disaster preparedness and response drills, operations, and procedures;

(4) capable of housing existing permanent structures necessary to meet training and first responders coordination requirements during nondisaster periods;

(5) capable of hosting the infrastructure necessary to rapidly adjust to temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance needs;

(6) required to consist of a complete operations command center, including 2 state-of-the art command and control centers that will comprise a 24/7 operations watch center as follows:

(A) one of the command and control centers shall be in full ready mode; and

(B) the other shall be used daily for training; and

(7) easily accessible at all times and be able to facilitate handicapped and medical facilities, including during an emergency or major disaster.

(c) Location of National Emergency Centers- There shall be established not fewer than one national emergency center in each of the following areas:

(1) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Regions I, II, and III.

(2) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Region IV.

(3) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Regions V and VII.

(4) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VI.

(5) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Regions VIII and X.

(6) The area consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency Region IX.

(d) Preference for Designation of Closed Military Installations- Wherever possible, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, shall designate a closed military installation as a site for a national emergency center. If the Secretaries of Homeland Security and Defense jointly determine that there is not a sufficient number of closed military installations that meet the requirements of subsections (b) and (c), the Secretaries shall jointly designate portions of existing military installations other than closed military installations as national emergency centers.

(e) Transfer of Control of Closed Military Installations- If a closed military installation is designated as a national emergency center, not later than 180 days after the date of designation, the Secretary of Defense shall transfer to the Secretary of Homeland Security administrative jurisdiction over such closed military installation.

(f) Cooperative Agreement for Joint Use of Existing Military Installations- If an existing military installation other than a closed military installation is designated as a national emergency center, not later than 180 days after the date of designation, the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Secretary of Defense shall enter into a cooperative agreement to provide for the establishment of the national emergency center.

(g) Reports-

(1) PRELIMINARY REPORT- Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting jointly with the Secretary of Defense, shall submit to Congress a report that contains for each designated site--

(A) an outline of the reasons why the site was selected;

(B) an outline of the need to construct, repair, or update any existing infrastructure at the site;

(C) an outline of the need to conduct any necessary environmental clean-up at the site;

(D) an outline of preliminary plans for the transfer of control of the site from the Secretary of Defense to the Secretary of Homeland Security, if necessary under subsection (e); and

(E) an outline of preliminary plans for entering into a cooperative agreement for the establishment of a national emergency center at the site, if necessary under subsection (f).

(2) UPDATE REPORT- Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting jointly with the Secretary of Defense, shall submit to Congress a report that contains for each designated site--

(A) an update on the information contained in the report as required by paragraph (1);

(B) an outline of the progress made toward the transfer of control of the site, if necessary under subsection (e);

(C) an outline of the progress made toward entering a cooperative agreement for the establishment of a national emergency center at the site, if necessary under subsection (f); and

(D) recommendations regarding any authorizations and appropriations that may be necessary to provide for the establishment of a national emergency center at the site.

(3) FINAL REPORT- Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting jointly with the Secretary of Defense, shall submit to Congress a report that contains for each designated site--

(A) finalized information detailing the transfer of control of the site, if necessary under subsection (e);

(B) the finalized cooperative agreement for the establishment of a national emergency center at the site, if necessary under subsection (f); and

(C) any additional information pertinent to the establishment of a national emergency center at the site.

(4) ADDITIONAL REPORTS- The Secretary of Homeland Security, acting jointly with the Secretary of Defense, may submit to Congress additional reports as necessary to provide updates on steps being taken to meet the requirements of this Act.

SEC. 4. LIMITATIONS ON STATUTORY CONSTRUCTION.

This Act does not affect--

(1) the authority of the Federal Government to provide emergency or major disaster assistance or to implement any disaster mitigation and response program, including any program authorized by the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5121 et seq.); or

(2) the authority of a State or local government to respond to an emergency.

SEC. 5. AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.

There is authorized to be appropriated $180,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2009 and 2010 to carry out this Act. Such funds shall remain available until expended.

SEC. 6. DEFINITIONS.

In this Act, the following definitions apply:

(1) CLOSED MILITARY INSTALLATION- The term ‘closed military installation’ means a military installation, or portion thereof, approved for closure or realignment under the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990 (part A of title XXIX of Public Law 101-510; 10 U.S.C. 2687 note) that meet all, or 2 out of the 3 following requirements:

(A) Is located in close proximity to a transportation corridor.

(B) Is located in a State with a high level or threat of disaster related activities.

(C) Is located near a major metropolitan center.

(2) EMERGENCY- The term ‘emergency’ has the meaning given such term in section 102 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5122).

(3) MAJOR DISASTER- The term ‘major disaster’ has the meaning given such term in section 102 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5122).

I'm through this being negative stuff. I'm not done with being angry yet, tho. But if I've learned anything, it's that negativity and anger feed on themselves and they escalate. There has to be a better way. I refuse to go around negative and angry over things I can't control. I can control me, and I can try to maintain inner peace. Even tho it hurts and it sucks that there are so many injustices, etc in the world.
I'm going to think on the blessings in my life, and all the things I have to be thankful for. I'm going to choose to believe it will get better, although it will get worse first.
We all need to be prepared in case of disaster, regardless of what kind. There are many questions I've not found the answers to yet. But, this too shall pass. I will keep on keepin' on, because it's all I've ever done or even know how to do.
I will keep watching over my family and grandkids. I will make use of what I have if I don't have what I need.
I was bitching about someone watching TV all the time since they were bitching about me being on the PC all the time. I'm not, I take frequent breaks, and do other things. They don't know that, since their gone sometimes. But when they're home, it's always the TV. Which just happens to be fine, if they're watching TV, they're leaving me alone to get work done. So a potential negative, I turn into a positive. Took me awhile to get there, tho. I'm trying to figure out how to do that on a bigger level.

I wanted to comment on this letter to the editor. People have a right to home school their kids.
I actually was thinking of reading an article and commenting on it a few times a week. I decided to do that and now, I'm sitting here wondering why I chose this article. Maybe because it deals with our rights, but also because it's another example of being lied to by our politicians.
They make a lot of promises to get the votes, but when they don't keep them, the answer goes invariable something like this, "I kept as many as I was able to." Maybe.
I don't think you can trust anyone who lies to you. That is just my personal opinion.
I suppose part of this anger I'm feeling is based on the prez not keeping his word. "We'll bring our soldiers home...", he says, and now what's he doing? Sending them to war. What a freakin' liar. I'm sorry. I hope this doesn't reflect on any other preppers, it isn't meant to. But it is my personal feelings.
More on this and other subjects later. Preferably more well written.

On March 5 I attended the executive session of the New Hampshire House Education Committee. I was there as a home-schooled student to see the vote on House Bills 367 and 368.

These bills, if passed, would increase regulation on home-schoolers throughout the state. Many home-schoolers and others have expressed their disapproval of these bills to their representatives.

While I was happy to hear that many representatives had told their constituents that they would vote against both bills, I was surprised to see that when HB 368 came to a vote, some did not vote the way they had told their constituents they would.

The issue of home-schooling transcends party lines. We must allow our commitment to freedom and diversity, and not party politics, to be the driving force in supporting home-schoolers in the state.

Hi All,
I finally got the survival and preparedness site up. More links will be added as I get them. The camping site is also up. The only thing on it is a camping cookbook, more will be added later. I'm accepting affiliates for the cookbook. You can make 33% for each camping cookbook you sell.
I have still have a shitload of stuff to get done. But hey, it beats the hell out of watching TV all day. Yes I know ppl who do that crap, and they bitch at me, and I quote "You're on that PC all day. I don't see how you can stand it. I'd go nuts." They can sit on they're duffs and watch Tv, but bitch at me for trying to make things better for myself. You can't run a business unless you spend time running it. Besides, like I tell them, as long as I'm on the PC, I'm not out there getting my ass in trouble. I get strange looks over that statement. But I know me. They apparently don't. Besides, I like the PC.

April Fool's Day Worm

CNN) -- A computer-science detective story is playing out on the Internet as security experts try to hunt down a worm called Conficker C and prevent it from damaging millions of computers on April Fool's Day.

This piece of computer code tells the worm to activate on April 1, 2009, researchers at CA found.

The anti-worm researchers have banded together in a group they call the Conficker Cabal. Members are searching for the malicious software program's author and for ways to do damage control if he or she can't be stopped.

They're motivated in part by a $250,000 bounty from Microsoft and also by what seems to be a sort of Dick Tracy ethic.

"We love catching bad guys," said Alvin Estevez, CEO of Enigma Software Group, which is one of many companies trying to crack Conficker. "We're like former hackers who like to catch other hackers. To us, we get almost a feather in our cap to be able to knock out that worm. We slap each other five when we're killing those infections."

The malicious program already is thought to have infected between 5 million and 10 million computers.

Those infections haven't spawned many symptoms, but on April 1 a master computer is scheduled to gain control of these zombie machines, said Don DeBolt, director of threat research for CA, a New York-based IT and software company.

What happens on April Fool's Day is anyone's guess.

The program could delete all of the files on a person's computer, use zombie PCs -- those controlled by a master -- to overwhelm and shut down Web sites or monitor a person's keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords or bank account information, experts said.

More likely, though, said DeBolt, the virus may try to get computer users to buy fake software or spend money on other phony products.

Experts said computer hackers largely have moved away from showboating and causing random trouble. They now usually try to make money off their viral programs.

DeBolt said Conficker C imbeds itself deep in the computer where it is difficult to track. The program, for instance, stops Windows from conducting automatic updates that could prevent the malware from causing damage.

The program's code is also written to evolve over time and its author appears to be making updates to thwart some of the Conficker Cabal's attempts to neuter the worm.

"It is very much a cat and mouse game," DeBolt said.

It's unclear who wrote the program, but members of the Cabal are looking for clues.

First, they know that some recent malware programs have come from Eastern European countries outside the jurisdiction of the European Union, said Patrick Morganelli, senior vice president of technology for Enigma Software.

Worm program authors often hide in those countries to stay out of sight from law enforcement, he said.

In a way, the Conficker Cabal is also looking for the program author's fingerprints. DeBolt said security researchers are looking through old malware programs to see if their programming styles are similar to that of Conficker C.

The prospects for catching the program's author are not good, Morganelli said.

"Unless they open their mouth, they'll never be found," he said.

So, the most effective counter-assault simply may be damage control.

One quick way to see if your computer has been infected is to see if you have gotten automatic updates from Windows in March. If so, your computer likely is fine, DeBolt said.

Microsoft released a statement saying the company "is actively working with the industry to mitigate the spread of the worm."

Users who haven't gotten the latest Windows updates should go to http://safety.live.com if they fear they're infected, the company's statement says.

DeBolt said people who use other antivirus software should check to make sure they've received the latest updates, which also could have been disabled by Conficker C.

The first version of Conficker -- strain A -- was released in late 2008.

That version used 250 Web addresses -- generated daily by the system -- as the means of communication between the master computer and its zombies.

The end goal of the first line was to sell computer users fake antivirus software, said Morganelli.

Computer security experts largely patched that problem by working with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to disable or buy the problematic URLs, he said.

That process-of-elimination approach isn't likely to be effective with Conficker strain C, Morganelli said. The new version will generate 50,000 URLs per day instead of just 250 when it becomes active, DeBolt said.

The first iteration of Conficker is thought to have grown out of a free function for security programs created by Dr. Ronald Rivest, a computer science professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"Any technology can be used for good or evil, and this is just an example of that," Rivest said.

Many viruses have taken pieces of benevolent programs and used them for ill. But overall the "open source" environment online promotes computer security far more than it enables hackers, DeBolt said.

"I don't blame the open-source community at all" for virus attacks, he said.

CA said it recently found a piece of code in Conficker C that says the worm will become active on April 1. Previous versions of the malicious software launched on specific dates noted in the program code, so the April Fool's Day launch date is not likely to be a trick, DeBolt said.

"The best minds in the industry are working on this to protect customers," he said. "We're trying to reduce the impact of the April 1 date as best we can. But we know ... this malware will continue to evolve."

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends.

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Hi All,
This is just an introductory note to tell you all a little about me. I'm 52. originally from WV, have family in KY, and I'm currently living in NH. I have ADHD, I'm currently trying to write an ebook about adventures and things to do here in my neck of the woods.
I often see and know things before they happen. I get migraines before an earthquake or other natural disasters.
I am also an entrepreneur trying to make a living online. I believe we can either whine about the way things are, or we can take action and change the way we do things. I don't want to be on SSI forever, especially in today's economy. So I'm trying to make a living online, by offering digital products, and by being an affiliate of other products.
